projects are about to increase, but before you start that next project,
remember these words, Call Before You Dig. Joe Gagnon is live in
studio this morning with more on what exactly those words mean. Call
Before You Dig is a campaign from the Utility Notification Center of
Colorado, or UNCC. Before you build, plant trees or shrubs, or even
install a sprinkler system, you need to know where your gas and electric
lines are so you don't accidentally cut into them, and create a potential
disaster. An Orchard Mesa Burger King had a scare yesterday,
construction crews working nearby slicing a gas line. The grand
junction fire department sent out for their first gas leak call of the month
of March. XCel energy says 2008 has already been a busy year for gas
leaks. We've had an increase in the amount of gas leaks, and in every
case it is someone cutting one of our lines. Grand Junction fire
department has been called out to an average of 7 gas leak calls per month
since July, including 18 in January and February combined. The fire
department says one reason could be the increasing size of Grand Junction.
We're forced to build up rather than out, and that requires us to build in
areas that have existed for a while...
